LOS ANGELES, CA – Following a scandal, megachurch Pastor Lee Curtis- Childs (Sterling K. Brown, who is known for his unwavering commitment to every role he steps in, embodies the archetype of a flashy, oblivious, condescending pastor that may require the most healing of them all. The Primetime Emmy Award Winner took his time in humanizing and lowering the standards and perception of what being a pastor ultimately consists of once one removes their expectations of being under the leadership of perfection.
Hall, who doesn’t receive enough credit for her timely wit and comedic performances, crystallizes the plight of black women in the church and the co-dependent relationship that black men have with black women. Her character, “Trinitie,” is continuously forced to smile through her pain and weather the storm of her husband’s shenanigans and alleged infidelities throughout the film. The New York Film Critics Circle Award Winner for Best Actress confirms that black women are society’s most unforgotten victims in every facet.
The 2022 NAACP Image Award Winner displays sarcasm and facetiousness as a means to cope. Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul is a satirical, yet ballsy comedy that confronts the destructive leadership, sexual assailants, narcissism, and types of power-abused in megachurches, all while proclaiming the alliance between a committed wife and reluctant-to-heal husband. Brown and Hall’s on-screen chemistry rescues women who choose to remain in their marriage for better or for worse.
This film is a true “mockumentary” produced by Daniel Kaluuya along with twin sisters Adamma and Adanne Ebo. Focus Features, Peacock, and Jordan Peele’s MonkeyPaw Productions have acquired worldwide rights to “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.” It is scheduled to be released on September 2 on Peacock.
Casual viewers will enjoy the good times and classic hip-hop nods in Peele’s films.
