GLENDALE, AZ – Music’s biggest stage is about to shine a little brighter.
On Sunday, the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced that Rihanna would headline the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Both the NFL and Rihanna appeared to tease the announcement, prior to its official confirmation, by sharing the same photo on social media of the singer’s hand holding a football.
“We are thrilled to welcome Rihanna to the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage,” NFL Head of Music Seth Dudowsky said in a statement. “Rihanna is a once in a generation artist who has been a cultural force throughout her career. We look forward to collaborating with Rihanna, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to bring fans another historic Halftime Show performance.”
This halftime show will be the first with the NFL’s new sponsor Apple Music and the fourth show produced by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
According to the Roc Nation website, Rihanna is currently signed to its record label and is also under the company’s management.
“Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “A person born on the small island of Barbados became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”
The 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show will mark the singer’s first performance in over five years. She last performed at the 2018 Grammys when she shared the stage with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller for a performance of their hit collab “Wild Thoughts.”
Her last album ANTI which spawned hits like “Work,” “Love on the Brain,” and “Needed Me” came out in 2016.
With the help of her wildly successful Fenty Beauty makeup line and SAVAGE X FENTY lingerie line, Forbes announced that Rihanna officially reached billionaire status in 2021.
In May 2022, Rihanna also entered the world of motherhood when she welcomed her first child with her boyfriend and rapper ASAP Rocky.
Super Bowl LVII is set to take place on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
