LOS ANGELES, CA – The condensed 36-game season resulted in the Los Angeles Sparks (2-2) starting the season with four road games in nine days. They will finally play their home opener on Tuesday Crypto.com Arena against the Minnesota Lynx, who are facing their share of turmoil.
The winless Lynx (0-4) have also played four games in the first nine days while coming to the realization that forward Angel McCoughtry’s knee is not 100 percent. As a result, Minnesota added veteran point guard Moriah Jefferson, moved Evina Westbrook from replacement player to the full-time roster, and re-signed replacement players Yvonne Turner, Nikolina Milic, and Hannah Sjerven.
Both teams will look to make a positive turn in the season, but neither has had the opportunity to truly build chemistry.
Head coach/GM Derek Fisher is now focused on starting games strong and finding the right combination for the Sparks’ starting five.
Jordin Canada and Nneka Ogwumike are leading the Sparks in scoring, while the team is waiting for superstar center Liz Cambage to find her footing, step up more offensively and defensively and just be a more consistent threat on both ends of the floor.
The Sparks’ season home-opener against the Lynx happens this Tuesday, May 17 at 7:30 pm PST.
