LOS ANGELES — As college football heats up, the spotlight once again shines brightly on various quarterbacks, that are expected to make significant impacts this season. While teams like Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, and Texas are often discussed for their talent, several quarterbacks across various conferences deserve close attention, according to analyst on host of Outta Pocket podcast Robert Griffin III.
Griffin told Nitecast Media that this college football season will be more dynamic than we’ve seen before, especially now that the 12-team playoff bracket is in operation. Many teams will be jockeying for positions throughout college football, and many conferences, including the SEC, Big Ten, Big XII, and ACC, will be fighting to see who will not only get the top spot but will be eligible with more than one or two losses. The quarterbacks will be watched closer than before. With Heisman Trophy hope in the atmosphere, this season promises to bring some memorable moments and spectacular plays to the gridiron.
Several quarterbacks come to mind, here’s a breakdown of some standout signal-callers that football fans should watch this season, according to Griffin.
Quinn Ewers is a name that resonates within college football circles. As the Longhorns quarterback returns for another season, he faces the challenge of entering the first year in the SEC with a fresh set of receivers and running backs that will come with new opponents and challenges along the way.
“You got Quinn Ewers at Texas coming back, trying to go into the SEC with a new band of receivers, new running backs that just lost one of their best running backs,” Griffin said. “So that can be a tough situation, but he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country.”
The number one team in the country, the Georgia Bulldogs, is led by quarterback Carson Beck, who presents a fascinating profile under center. With a formidable defense backing him up and a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball, Beck has a golden opportunity to shine all season long in the tough SEC.
“Carson Beck at Georgia, physical, big arm kid, is going to have a great defense, once again, and a lot of talent around him as well (this season).”
One of the more intriguing prospects this season is quarterback Jalen Milroe at Alabama. There is considerable anticipation surrounding his growth under the guidance of new head coach Kalen DeBoer.
“I just want to see this guy’s development is Jalen Monroe at Alabama. And the reason I say that is because Kalen DeBoer is a guy that I would play for,” Griffin explained. “I’ve called multiple games for Kalen DeBoer at Washington. His players will run through a wall for him, and the offense that he brings to the table, it ain’t going to be the same as it was with Michael Penix. But he knows how to adjust to the quarterback he has, and I want to see Jalen Miller go play football. Don’t focus on, I’ve got to throw it 35 times, play football. If that means running for 200 (yards), run for 200. If that means throwing for 400 (yards), throw for 400. I want to see how he develops underneath Kalen DeBoer, because I think he can unlock that specialness that will make him a top pick in the draft.“
Head coach Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are stepping into the Big Ten Conference, ready to face serious competition from teams like Ohio State and Michigan. The addition of new transfer quarterback Dillion Gabriel, who is already in the Heisman Trophy conversations, has sparked hope and optimism. The Ducks are aiming to make a mark this season, and fans are eagerly anticipating Gabriel’s performances on Saturdays.
Another quarterback to highlight is Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. He may have been somewhat overlooked, but his performance last season was nothing short of remarkable. The Ole Miss offense is not your typical one-it’s gritty, it’s hungry, and it’s divisive. It’s a trap that could spell trouble for their opponents this season, and it’s certainly one to watch.
“Jaxson Dart actually called their game last year, Ole Miss versus LSU, where they beat them. Very high-scoring game. I would say people are sleeping on Jackson Dart just a little bit. A player that can do it all, can throw it from the pocket, can move around, be athletic, so I actually agree with you. I think Jaxson Dart is a player who could be in the running for the Heisman, but also could lead Ole Miss to an even better season than they had last year.“
As the season progresses, these quarterbacks have the potential to light up the field and lead their teams to victory. Each brings a unique skill set and story that football fans want to follow closely. Whether it’s Ewers navigating a new conference, Beck commanding a championship-caliber team, Milroe’s versatile play, or Dart’s dual-threat capabilities, this season promises to be exciting for college football enthusiasts looking for standout performances from these talented quarterbacks.
