BROOKLYN, NY — The New York Liberty defeat the Minnesota Lynx 86-75, thanks to an outstanding record setting effort by Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu who finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assist for her first career WNBA triple double.
“I’m excited but I’m more excited that we got a win,” Ionescu said about her first triple double. “It really takes a whole team effort it’s not just me. It’s everyone getting in position to score and rebound so I’m just really proud of this team and how we fought tonight.”
Ionescu scored the franchises first triple double in history, all while carrying that Mamba Mentality from her late mentor Kobe Bryant. Bryant was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame last Saturday, and Ionescu shared her thoughts regarding the ceremony and carrying Bryant’s legacy on the floor.
“It was really special and happy to be there with everyone that was out there honoring everything he stood and hoping to bring that mentality out here every single time I play, and to my teammates as well,” she said.
In the opening game she won the game with a game winning three pointer as the Liberty start the season at 3-0. The Liberty face the Washington Mystics on the road on Friday night.
