COLUMBIA, SC — South Carolina Gamecocks head football coach Shane Beamer has recently made headlines as one of nine finalists for the prestigious 2024 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. This announcement by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), in conjunction with the Allstate Sugar Bowl, highlights Beamer’s remarkable achievements in his fourth season at the helm of the Gamecocks.

With a record of 29 wins and 21 losses, Beamer has secured more victories in his first four seasons than any other coach in the program’s history, surpassing even Steve Spurrier, South Carolina’s all-time winningest coach. Under Beamer’s leadership, the Gamecocks have had an exceptionally successful 2024 season, with a 9-3 record on the season — something that has happened only five times in the program’s storied history.

This season has been particularly impressive as the Gamecocks achieved four school-record victories against ranked opponents. Their impressive performance included three consecutive wins against ranked teams, contributing to a season-ending six-game winning streak.

It’s been an incredible ride,” Beamer said, acknowledging his team’s hard work and dedication. “The guys really rallied together, and those big wins are a testament to their effort and resilience.

For his achievement, Beamer was named the Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Week following a significant upset over Texas A&M and was also recognized as the SEC Coach of the Year. The Gamecocks are set to conclude the season with their highest ranking since 2013, which further cements Beamer’s position as a rising star in college coaching.
The finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award were chosen for their exceptional performance throughout the season.

Our nine Coach of the Year finalists represent everything that has defined college football in 2024,” said FWAA president Andrea Adelson. “Each coach has demonstrated an exceptional ability to get the most out of his players.”

Beamer is not just the first in his family to be recognized; he is also South Carolina’s first Eddie Robinson Award finalist, symbolizing a significant milestone for both him and the football program. Eddie Robinson III, the coaching legend’s grandson, expressed similar sentiments, highlighting the depth of talent in this year’s candidate pool.

The outstanding coaching jobs done by several rising coaches give us as much depth to this field as we have ever had,” Robinson said.

As the Gamecocks prepare to take on the No. 20 Illinois Fighting Illini in the upcoming 79th Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on December 31, excitement surrounds the program. “We’ve got a lot to look forward to,” Beamer said. “It’s about building on this season and taking the Gamecocks to new heights.”

The new accolades and recognition symbolize not just Beamer’s accomplishments but also the revitalization of the South Carolina football program.
The 2024 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award recipient will be announced on December 18, and the official presentation will follow on January 18, 2025, in Atlanta.

Shane Beamer continues to inspire his team and fan base, proving that great success is within reach with hard work, determination, and a commitment to excellence in the program.
