LONG BEACH, CA — Recently celebrating his 49th birthday, having a career spanning close to three decades and millions of albums sold, Snoop Dogg born Calvin Broadus has cemented his status in music history. He has become one of the most recognizable and prolific voices in music.
Snoop Dogg, who hails from Long Beach, began his career in 1992 working alongside Dr. Dre and making a memorable appearance on Dr. Dre’s album “The Chronic” on the song “Nuthin’ But A G Thang”. Snoop was the premiere talent on Death Row Records that was founded by Dr. Dre and Suge Knight.
His debut album “Doggystyle” which has sold over 11 million albums worldwide, has provided classic hip-hop staples such as “What’s My Name,” “Gin and Juice,” and “Ain’t No Fun” to name a few.
As his career continued to expand in the late 1990’s, he released his sophomore album “Tha Doggfather” and collaborated with the late Tupac Shakur on his track “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” which appeared on Shakur’s iconic 1996 album “All Eyez On Me.”
Snoop was also responsible for forming groups such Tha Dogg Pound (Daz and Kurupt) “Dogg Food,” and the LBC Crew that featured Lil’ Style, Techniec, and the late Bad Azz.
In the late ’90’s, Snoop teamed up with No Limit Records CEO Master P, which elevated his career in a more illustrious and positive direction.
Once the 2000’s rolled in, Snoop Dogg continued to deliver chart-topping records and collaborated with producer Pharrell Williams on two unforgettable tracks, “Beautiful,” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot”. Snoop also introduced other groups to the world in Tha Eastsidaz, and Doggy’s Angels.
Snoop Dogg, who has acquired different monikers throughout his career including “Snoop Doggy Dogg” and “Snoop Lion”, set himself apart from other rappers with his melodic, laid back and seemingly effortless rhyme style.
Snoop Dogg has established himself as an artist that bares no boundaries and can cross over into genres including R&B, funk, country, pop, and even released a reggae-inspired album titled “Reincarnated” in 2013.
In addition to creating songs that have become essential party classics over the past few decades, Snoop Dogg has nabbed a whopping 16 Grammy nominations, sold close to 37 million albums worldwide and has even dabbled in acting with roles in movies like “Training Day,” “The Wash,” “Bones,” and “Soul Plane.”
He also released a gospel inspired album entitled “The Gospel of Love” in 2018.
