COLUMBIA, SC — With huge expectations for the upcoming season, especially with teams in the SEC (Southeastern Conference), the emerging talent of South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers continues to generate excitement and Heisman conversation. Sellers is attracting significant attention for his distinctive attributes and potential to make waves at both the collegiate and professional levels.
After watching his talent continue to elevate, The Sporting News insider Bill Bender reflected on the huge season that is coming for Sellers and what makes him a standout in college football.
“The size. I mean, he’s huge,” Bender told Nitecast Media. “He took over a couple of games running the football last year. He had two 100-yard games.”
Bender continued to praise Sellers’ development as a passer, noting his proficiency in play-action scenarios.
“He’s very good in play action. So what the NFL scouts are going to look at is a pocket passer. Can he be that?” Bender remarked, indicating Sellers’ potential versatility. “We know he can be play action. We know he can run. We know he’s pretty accurate, too, which is really good.”
Handling heightened expectations is another challenge for Sellers, especially with his growing reputation. “How does he handle the Heisman hype?” Bender wondered. With Sellers predicted to be the first-team quarterback on SEC preseason teams, how he manages this attention will be pivotal.
He also made an interesting comparison to former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson, who now plays for the Indianapolis Colts, “I think he’s a little bit different from Anthony Richardson because he’s stockier, just a really good kid too. And I’m not saying Anthony Richardson isn’t, but you get what I’m saying. This kid, I think he’s built to handle the hype, and he really got going late last season.“
Binder stressed Sellers’ unique build and character that suggest he might withstand the pressure brought on by media and fan expectations.
Sellers’ late-season momentum and the confidence in his potential rise through the ranks, he has all the tools to be watched from a national level.
“I’m a believer. I think he can push himself into the top 10,” Binder stated. Sellers offers something different in the quarterback class when compared to contemporaries like Drew Aller, Cade Klubnick, and Dante Moore, each with their distinct playing styles.
As LaNorris Sellers gears up for what promises to be a pivotal season, the buzz surrounding his abilities on and off the field continues to grow, with his unique field vision and dynamic athleticism.
“My gosh, how many times can a guy throw ‘4 Verticals’ for a touchdown because he did it like five times a game?” South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer told Bruce Feldman of the NY Times.
With physical prowess, a developing skillset, and a poised attitude, Sellers is positioned as a key player to watch, both in the SEC and on the path to the NFL.
