LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Sparks came back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Phoenix Mercury 87-84.  Rookie Amy Atwell played aggressive every time she was on the court, and led the Sparks with 19 points shooting 6-for-7 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from three-point range in 15 minutes.

Atwell says her success is, because of the work she does off the court.

The Sparks pulled out the win without All-Star center Liz Cambage, who fouled out after playing just over 11 minutes and only scoring four points.  Cambage stayed engaged and continued to coach up rookie Olivia Nelson-Ododa from the sideline. Head Coach/GM Derek Fisher says “that is just who she is.”

The Sparks head out on the road to start the regular season against Candace Parker and the defending champion Chicago Sky on Friday, May 6th.
