Steph Curry’s ‘GOAT’ Film Delivers All-Star Cast and Inspiring Tale of Dreams To Theaters
LOS ANGELES, CA – In an era where cynicism often feels like the default, a new film is arriving to remind us of the enduring power of dreams, the thrill of aspiration, and the sweet taste of achievement. “GOAT,” a heartwarming and wonderfully animated feature, is set to inspire audiences of all ages and arrives in theaters on February 13, perfectly timed for the buzz of NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles. This isn’t just a sports story; it’s a vibrant, essential message wrapped in a creative life adventure.
The film introduces us to “Will Harris” (Caleb McLaughlin), a young goat with an outsized dream: to play in the professional Roarball League. This isn’t your average basketball; it’s a high-octane version dominated by the biggest, toughest animals around. Despite years of relentless effort and being overlooked due to his size, Will’s determination never wavers. His big break comes unexpectedly: a viral video of him bravely facing off against the league’s biggest bully, “Mane Attraction” (Aaron Pierre), a competitor twice his size. This viral moment earns Will an unbelievable opportunity – not only to play for his hometown team, Vineland, but to play alongside his idol, the legendary Jett Fillmore (Gabrielle Union).
Fillmore, however, is at a crossroads in her career, desperately seeking to bring a championship to Vineland. Thanks to the machinations of the greedy team owner, Florence Everson (Jenifer Lewis), Will and Jett are reluctantly forced to team up. After some initial convincing, Will finally gets his chance on the court and immediately makes his presence known. His infectious confidence and unwavering belief slowly begin to re-ignite a fire within the team, a spirit they haven’t felt in years. This initially doesn’t sit well with Jett, the team’s reigning superstar.
Yet, as the season progresses, Fillmore gradually comes around, shedding some of her selfish ways. But as the playoffs near and the stakes escalate, old habits resurface, and she inadvertently alienates the team, despite their shared success. This emotional journey, while not overly complex, is deeply heartfelt and incredibly well-digested, largely thanks to the undeniable chemistry between Jett and Will. It’s their evolving bond that ultimately guides the team back to their shared focus: winning a title for their beloved hometown. Through it all, Will never forgets his mother, Lucille Harris (EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson), unwavering belief in him, even when the rest of the world ignored his grandest aspirations. It’s a powerful, clear message for both adults and kids to never give up on any dream, vision, or desire to be great at whatever your purpose in life is.

The film boasts an absolutely amazing voice cast, enriching the narrative with star power and genuine warmth. Beyond McLaughlin, Union, and Hudson, the roster includes Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry (lending his voice to Lenny Williamson), music sensation JellyRoll (as Grizz), Las Vegas Aces and WNBA champion A’ja Wilson (as Kouyete), and comedian Andrew Santino (as Chuck), to name just a few.
“I think just the authenticity, and the things that I see of myself in Will’s character and his story arc,” Curry said. “We knew that the story that we could tell is set in an obviously Roarball and basketball, an all-animal world, but it’s not just a sports story. It’s something that I think for, you know, the entire family to come and enjoy. So we knew that we’d have a great opportunity to reach a lot of people with this.“
The animation of “GOAT” is both present and remarkably creative, captivating attention with its unique detail. The abstract style allows playful experimentation with watercolor backgrounds and charming hand-drawn art, giving the film a distinct, memorable aesthetic. While the writing, though good, can be a tad predictable in certain areas, leading to a less-than-climactic ending, it definitely does not detract from the overall experience. This work of art is absolutely worth the time and effort to view and enjoy.

Stephen Curry and Erick Peyton should be praised for their involvement in producing this film through their Unanimous Media company, which Sony Pictures distributes. “GOAT” earns a solid 8.5/10, making it a must-see family film on February 13.
