LOS ANGELES, CA – Actress Viola Davis added some hardware to her collection of Awards, as she won for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and How To Get Away With Murder on ABC.
The series concluded in May 2020, however the impact of Davis will forever be felt on network television. Sitting next to her husband during her acceptance speech for winning Outstanding Actress In A Drama Series Award, she thanked show creator Shondra Rhimes.
“Oh my God! Thank you Pete Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes, the beautiful cast of How To Get Away With Murder…it was the joy and journey of my life to go on this ride with you.
“Thank you for redefining what it means to be a leading lady, what it means to be a woman, what it means to be Black on network television…thank you for the ride of my life!” Davis said.
Davis also won Outstanding Actress In A Motion Picture For Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the film that also saw Chadwick Boseman in his final acting performance.
“Thank you August Wilson…. thank you for honoring us with your ‘Century Cycle’ of plays. Thank you for loving us…thank you for leaving this legacy,” Davis said. “Thank you to Netflix, thank you to Denzel (Washington) and Todd Black, thank you to the entire cast of Ma Rainey. And to the beautiful Chadwick Boseman, I love you Chad!”
