After WrestleMania backlash, we all expected to get some fresh new matchups going into SummerSlam season; however, it seemed to be just the same ho-hum Monday Night Raw as usual.
There was one stand out performance from Kofi Kingston. That’s right; he’s back in the title picture yet again. With a huge victory over Bobby Lashley, he’s vaulted right back in to the main event scene. Could this be a sign of a future turn by Xavier Woods? We’ll have to wait and see how it goes.
The US title is heating up with the battle between Ricochet and Sheamus. The match was good and it’s interesting what they’re trying to do with him stealing his hat and playing off the Jake Paul/Mayweather incident. However, these two just don’t seem to have an intriguing enough storyline to keep people tuning in each week.
Finally, ridding Damien Priest from John Morrison and The Miz is good moving forward. This feud with The Miz was huge for his career thus far, because The Miz has that mainstream appeal which gives the rub to Priest. Using that as a springboard to hopefully involve himself in the US title picture and watching those two behemoths battle it out, will have flashbacks of the big man 90s battles.
The women’s tag division is all up in the air after Alexa Bliss inserted herself into the picture by helping the champs to retain. This is a confusing move to say the least, because as of right now she has no partner. Her version of the firefly funhouse is more cringe-worthy rather than scary and spooky like it should be.
Let’s see if WWE push any of the story lines further or inserts some new superstars into the scene with SummerSlam right around the corner.
