LAS VEGAS, NV — The Wu Tang Clan’s Inspectah Dek had a powerful verse that stated “leave it up to me and I be living proof, to kick the truth to the young Black youth,” that still resonates today. The Las Vegas Aces superstar, WNBA champion and now two-time Defensive Player Of The Year in A’ja Wilson continues that message with her upcoming book Dear Black Girls: How To Be True To You.

Wilson decided to write the book to encourage and give insight to lessons learned, overcoming obstacles and all that she continues to learn as she navigates her way towards greatness. She continues to excel on the court with being the face of the WNBA, yet most importantly using her voice to speak out on behalf of Black girls and boys that may not have the voice. She understands the responsibility of her position that extends far beyond the world of basketball, without shying away from recognizing the strength of being powerful Black woman in today’s society. Wilson one of the best talents in the women’s game, an Olympic gold medalist, brand ambassador for many products that include Nike, Ruffles (PepsiCo), and others, as she continues to diversify her portfolio into the literary world with her latest book.

It was kind of break off of my Players Tribune (article) I did, I felt things just needed to be heard from a Black woman’s perspective on what I may go through and what we may go through in life,” Wilson said. “Run your race at your own pace.”

Although she didn’t win the 2023 WNBA MVP Award, she is still an MVP for many in her community and those who support the league, due to her passion, soul and love that stretches beyond the court. Wilson has expressed a desire to continue her literary career with authoring children’s book one day. With an emphasis on dyslexia, something Wilson dealt with growing up. A learning disorder characterized by difficulty ready that has more than three million people dealing with it per year.

I really want to write a children’s book especially for a child that had dyslexia growing up… still have it to this day. Writing a children’s book from that aspect of that and understanding that they’re (children) are not alone.

Wilson and the Aces have returned to the WNBA Finals to defend their title, as she continues to give her all on the court, her service to people will continue to be at the top of the list in order to help improve humanity across the board. Wilson continues to be authentic and unapologetically her, to thine own self be true.
