To Her, With Love, the second original film from Hallmark’s Mahogany Brand, unfolds a re-imagining of the late great Sidney Poitier, To Sir, With Love, through the lens of a black female educator. Paying homage to creative people and teachers, an ambitious and goal-oriented art teacher depicted by Skye P. Marshall (“Good Sam”) and her incredibly loyal and dedicated colleague, Tobias Truvillion (“Tales”) find themselves undeniably bounded by purpose and faith.

Following a layoff from an elite private institution she was subbing for, Kayla (Marshall) involuntarily moves back to her hometown of Stoneville, North Carolina, where she’s guided to make amends with her roots and offered a teaching position at her high school alma mater.

Though Kayla is reluctant to return, she can’t resist the abundance of creative control that is offered and the instant connection with her colleague Jordan (Truvillion). The two would embark on a complex journey of love, romance, vulnerability, teaching, misunderstanding, assumptions, and strategy. They are tasked with saving the school’s art department, and Kayla’s desire to reach her external goal of getting into a competitive teaching program in London.

Jordan, who is led by his calling of serving underprivileged students, cautiously builds trust with Kayla until their trust is tested. His reservations remain valid throughout the film, but so does Kayla’s commitment to seeing things through. One thing is certain; they find rest in knowing that in every capacity, they are fulfilling God’s invitation to pivot. The film also uses art as a breathing space for both students and faculty.
