AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Longhorns had revenge on their minds after last season’s overtime loss at the Los Angeles Coliseum against the USC Trojans. Texas would not be denied, as they trounced the Trojans 37-14 in Austin.
USC opened up with a sound 14-3 lead that included two rushing touchdowns. Quarterback JT Daniels had an impressive first quarter after completing 67% of his passes.
After several adjustments by Texas head coach Tom Herman, the Longhorns scored 47-yard touchdown pass to Lil’Jordan Humphrey in the second quarter and didn’t look back. It would be a long night for USC head coach Clay Helton, as Texas turned on the heat even more in the third quarter.
A blocked Chase McGrath field goal was returned for a touchdown by Texas.
USC was forced to punt several times that gave Texas excellent field position and allowed them to score at will on several drives throughout the game.
The Trojans struggled due lack of proper adjustments, and not managing the clock better especially in the second half.
Trojans wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown finished with nine catches for 167 yards in the loss.
USC lost its second straight game on the road, after a 17-3 loss to Stanford last week. The Trojans look to return to the Coliseum, and get back in the win column on Friday night against the Washington State Cougars.
*USC has lost four straight trips in the state of Texas, with losses to Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, and Texas.
