ORLANDO, FL – On Tuesday, the Walt Disney Company pledged to donated $1 million in relief to the Bahamas due to the devastation of Hurricane Dorian two weeks ago. Disney has aligned the monies to go to non-profit relief agencies with purchasing supplies like food, water, and construction materials.
The category 5 hurricane brought flooding, wide spread damage that caused thousands to be missing, and is responsible for over 50 deaths thus far.
“The Walt Disney Company stands with the people of The Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian,” Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. “We hope our $1 million donation will provide much-needed relief and help our neighbors, colleagues, and all those impacted by this devastating storm begin the long process of recovery as they work to put their lives and communities back together.”
The Bahamas is one of the many place Disney has aligned it itself with over the past several years. Jeff Vahle, president of the Disney Cruise Line, also spoke about the relief efforts to restore the island back to paradise, along with helping the residents.
“The Bahamas is such a special place to us and our guests, and we have watched the devastation created by Hurricane Dorian with concern and heartache,” Vahle said. “We stand with the Bahamian people, and especially those in Abaco and Grand Bahama, as they recover from the worst storm to ever make landfall in The Bahamas. As the needs in these communities are assessed, we are prepared to aid the relief and recovery efforts through funding, the provision of supplies and by providing support to our Bahamian Crew Members.”
The company is passionate to ensure the relief efforts will be maintained accordingly throughout the process of restoration.
