WASHINGTON D.C.– The Washington NFL team made history as they hired their first Black female head coach in Jennifer King. Washington made history by hiring their first Latino head coach in Ron Rivera several weeks ago.
“I’m really excited to be here, this is a culmination of a lot of work and some sacrifice to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” King told Voice of the Redskins host Larry Michael.
King has always had a passion for football and before the opportunity to coach at the NFL ranks, King coached women’s basketball team at Greensboro College. Once her love for football was noticed, she later met Rivera and years later she is now apart of his staff. She’s being brought on the staff as a coaching intern for a full season.
“She is a bright young coach and will be a great addition to our staff,” Rivera said in a statement, “Her work ethic and preparation were big factors in bringing her to the Redskins.“
King’s ultimate goal is to be a coordinator someday in the NFL. She’s got a great start and they could lead to her making some serious moves within the league. King is an awesome role model not only for young people but for anyone who desires to accomplish the dreams in life.
King will be working with the running back group and quality control for the team this coming season.
