Gabrielle Dennis dawns the task of pulling back the layers of Candice Stiles while maintaining the meaning of her lifestyle in the series thriller ‘Nemesis’ on Netflix.

INGLEWOOD, CA — In Netflix’s buzzed-about thriller ‘Nemesis’, the talented and vivacious Gabrielle Dennis quietly commands attention as ‘Candice Stiles’. She serves as the emotional anchor, trying to keep a household and marriage with LAPD detective Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law) intact. This all unfolds amid a spiraling web of crime, obsession, and betrayal.

Created and executive produced by Courtney Kemp and Tani Marole, Nemesis places Dennis’s Candice at a crossroads. She tries to preserve domestic life while navigating the dangerous world surrounding her husband. As a result, her performance balances restraint and explosive feeling. Dennis says this arc drew her to the project the moment she read the script.

It was a lot to dive into. The first thing you get excited about is Netflix and Courtney Kemp. So already you’re like, ‘Oh, boy,’ it’s gonna be juicy,” Dennis told Nitecast Media. “Being able to see Candice Stiles really grow and go through all of this. She’s splitting her time between two different worlds. It’s something many of us experience in relationships, business, and work life. Saying Courtney Kemp’s words felt exciting.

Candice’s story threads through the series as both a stabilizing force and a pressure point. She pours into Isaiah, but increasingly needs someone to pour into her. That push and pull—caretaker and care-needing partner—gives Dennis room to show vulnerability, fatigue, and the quiet fury that builds as stability unravels.

Dennis credits co‑star Matthew Law’s craft and on‑set energy with elevating her work and the series’ tone.

Matthew’s so great. I mean, he’s such a true, pure artist. So it was great to have someone around there that really appreciates the craft, who really takes it seriously, who really, like, pours into other people,” she said. “It’s great to have a co‑star that’s on the same level and that same vibe, and he’s a blast to work with. And he keeps his boom box, so he carries it with him. He’s also like a DJ, so he keeps the music and the vibes going all day. He’s really great!”

That chemistry helps make the show’s intimate scenes believable. Marital strain and secrecy simmer in these moments, deepening Candice’s internal conflict. The interactions with Assistant Chief District Attorney Malik Jacobs (Jeff Pierre)—whose past with Candice resurfaces—create an additional arc of tension and force Candice to confront unresolved loyalties and emotional challenges.

Nemesis blends procedural momentum with personal stakes. Dennis’s arc traces shifts in power and trust as he faces the consequences of his choices. Candice’s journey is marked by ambiguous decisions and shifting loyalties, prompting viewers to question her motives. For Dennis, it was a chance to tackle complex material from a writer known for character-driven, morally fraught drama.

With Courtney Kemp attached, you know you’re stepping into a world that’s rich, morally complicated, and filled with tough, vivid dialogue,” Dennis added.

Her praise echoes the broader reception of Nemesis that has generated strong viewership and critical chatter about its performances and production design, and many viewers are already clamoring for a second season to untangle storylines left hanging at the close of Season 1.

Dennis delivers a grounded performance, Law brings depth to Isaiah, and the supporting cast—including Cleopatra Coleman and Y’lan Noel—add to Nemesis’s textured L.A. crime drama. The series rewards patience and close attention. For viewers drawn to moral complexity and relationship tension in high-stakes crime, Candice Stiles stands out. Her emotional evolution could be the main reason audiences return. The effectiveness of the various storylines keeps audiences intrigued, knowing everything will come full circle when the series concludes for Season 1. Too many questions and not enough answers for Nemesis not to have a Season 2 that can dive into some of the narratives that began.
