
EXCLUSIVE: Cam Newton Eyes Expansion into WNBA and Women’s Sports with Iconic Saga Media Empire
SAN FRANCISCO — Cam Newton is building more than a media résumé — he’s crafting a platform to amplify voices across sports, especially women’s athletics.
The former NFL MVP — now founder and owner of Iconic Saga and host of shows including 4th and 1 and Funky Fridays — has become a regular television presence, with in‑season analyst spots on ESPN’s First Take. But Newton told Nitecast Media he wants to do more than commentate; he wants to collaborate and expand coverage into the WNBA and other women’s sports.
“I would love to partner with an expert in that space,” Newton told Nitecast Media exclusively. “There are so many different dope, you know, women that have made an impact in the sport. And, like… From basketball to pickleball to tennis. My coverage of it is through a generalization that it requires more of an in‑depth look. You know, understanding that I just don’t know.”
In discussing his evolving role, Newton framed his approach as thoughtful and team‑oriented — not a takeover, but a bridge.
“I‘m always trying to expand the fleet of giving the fans a different perspective and also collaborating and partnering with athletes that are able to give it in that insight too. Man, I’m a big fan of women’s sports,” he said. “I plan on using Iconic Saga as a segue to merge different voices in different communities and for all the love of sports and culture.”

His comments arrive amid a broader surge in attention for the WNBA and women’s sports generally — leagues and athletes are attracting bigger audiences, sponsorships, and mainstream media interest.
Newton acknowledged the progress while noting there’s still work to be done in the sports media landscape.
“What the WNBA has been doing in these last couple of years, they’re so far away to where they really want to be, but the fact that… people are giving them attention you know in other sports as well too.”
For Newton, effective coverage means pairing his reach with specialists who deliver tactical, historical, and cultural context. He says he lacks these perspectives. The pitch is simple, add experienced voices to Iconic Saga’s orbit. The goal is richer storytelling that goes beyond box scores and X’s and O’s.
As Newton expands his media imprint, his goal is clear, to be “a voice for the voiceless” by elevating new perspectives in sports.
