Georgia G‑Day Spring Game: Red Tops Black 27‑17 as Bulldogs Combine for 700 Yards of Offense
1ATHENS, GA — Georgia’s Red and Black combined for 700 yards of offense in a lively G‑Day spring game at Sanford Stadium Saturday. The Red team got off to a quick start and beat the Black squad, 27‑17.
The Red side — which included the first-team offense along with certain backups — quickly established a 17-0 advantage and maintained it throughout the game. The offense of the Red team accumulated a total of 385 yards, whereas the Black team managed to generate 315 yards. In terms of rushing, the Red team dominated the Black team with 129 yards compared to 64 yards.
Quarterback reps were distributed widely throughout the game as Red starter Gunner Stockton saw limited action, completing 7 of 12 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown, while backup Ryan Puglisi handled more volume, combining to go 8 of 19 for 86 yards. In all, seven quarterbacks threw at least one pass. Freshman Bryson Beaver impressed late for the Black team, finishing 9 of 13 for 101 yards and a touchdown.
“I thought it was a good day,” Stockton said postgame. “It was a chance to go out and play in front of our fans, which is always a great day. I thought we competed and did our best.”
The game began with a Red field goal — Peyton Woodring hit a 26-yard kick with 5:04 left in the first quarter. The Red offense then moved methodically with both runs and chunk plays: Stockton found Craig Dandridge for 33 yards, Chauncey Bowens ripped off an 18-yard run, and tight end Jaden Reddell (6‑4, 240) finished a drive with a 7-yard touchdown rush to make it 10‑0 early in the second quarter.
Bowens (now wearing No. 5) and Dante Dowdell provided the Red ground production; Dowdell — a recent transfer from Kentucky — broke off a 27‑yard run for the Black and later had big plays for the Red after flipping teams during the exhibition. The Red continued to press before halftime when Puglisi hit Reddell, and Bowens punched it in on short yardage, pushing the lead to 17‑0 with 1:31 remaining in the half.
After halftime, the Black offense revived in the third quarter behind redshirt freshman Hezekiah Millender and then Beaver. Millender, who went 9-for-15 for 103 yards and a 1-yard rushing touchdown, led a drive to cut the deficit to 17-7 with 9:32 left in the third. He also hit Brayden Fogle for 32 yards earlier in the series.
Momentum shifted again as Red quarterback Ryan Montgomery played for both teams, completing 10 of 18 passes for 132 yards, including several big plays late. Early in the fourth, Montgomery hit Colton Heinrich for 48 yards and Landon Roldan for 23, setting up Dowdell’s 1‑yard touchdown and a 27‑10 Red lead with 6:17 remaining.
The Black team mounted a late surge, including a 43‑yard Beaver-to-Taylor pass setting up a Harran Zurreikat 28‑yard field goal to cut the margin to 27‑13. Beaver then hit Kaiden Prothro for a 6‑yard touchdown with 3:18 left, making it 27‑17 before Red safety Tyriq Greene picked off a deep Beaver pass in the final minute to secure the win.
Chauncey Bowens had nine carries for 42 yards for the Red team. Nine Bulldogs recorded rushing attempts in total. The Red squad registered two rushing touchdowns (Dowdell and Dwight Phillips Jr.), whereas the Black squad scored one rushing touchdown.
Special teams also played a role in the game’s progression. The Black’s 58‑yard Zurreikat field‑goal try came up short at the half; later, Woodring hit a 38‑yard field goal for the Red team.
Overall, G‑Day revealed Georgia’s depth—especially at quarterback—and highlighted a running back rotation and tight-end group expected to shape the offense this fall.
The Bulldogs open their 2026 season vs. Tennessee State on September 5.
